Ocean City, MD Music Festivals: Are They Good For Ocean City?

If you haven’t heard the news already, the town of Ocean City, MD recently announced it will be having ANOTHER music festival in OC this summer! The most recently announced festival is called Boardwalk Rock, which will have some amazing artists such as Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, Nickelback, and Shinedown! If you’re like us, when you saw the lineup for this festival you immediately knew it was going to be a hit.

If you’re an Ocean City, MD local, or you’re considering purchasing a beach home in OC and you’re wondering what these events mean for the town of OC, you’ve come to the right place.

Today, we’ll take a dive into what all of these music festivals mean for Ocean City. Are they a good thing or a bad thing for the town? Are they simply a nuisance because of the traffic? What affect do these events have on OC? Stick around to find out!

When was the first Music Festival in Ocean City, MD?

A few years ago in 2022, the town of Ocean City, MD announced that it would be having the first music festival ever hosted in Ocean City, MD, Oceans Calling. Unfortunately, because of the weather, the music festival had to be cancelled. Shortly thereafter, Oceans Calling was scheduled to make its debut in 2023.

How many music festivals take place in Ocean City, MD?

The town of OC has continued adding one concert every year ever since Oceans Calling in 2023. After it’s success, the event organizers continued Oceans Calling and added Country Calling for the first weekend of October in 2024. Assuming that both Oceans and Country Calling come back in 2025, which we are fairly confident in given their success, there will be 3 music festivals in Ocean City during the year of 2025!

How do these festivals impact Ocean City, MD?

So far, these music festivals have been a BIG hit. While we do hear rumblings of some Ocean City, MD locals saying that there is a bunch of traffic created from the event, that’s the most negative thing we’ve heard… if the worst thing we can come up with is traffic, then the event is without a doubt great for the town of OC.

Oceans and Country Calling bring a HUGE influx of people into Ocean City. You probably already see where we’re going with this, but that means restaurants and other local businesses get a few more busy weeks towards the end of the season. We’ve heard from many business owners, particularly those on the southern end of the boardwalk that they have had RECORD days during these music festivals. If Boardwalk Rock is half as successful as Oceans and Country Calling, it will bring a large influx of tourists into town, meaning another busy week for OC business owners.

Not only do these music festivals help out businesses directly by bringing revenue outside of the normal busy summer season, but they also bring people who may not have previously known about Ocean City, MD to our town! For two years in a row, there was someone from EVERY STATE in the U.S. who visited OC for Oceans Calling. Needless to say, this is without a doubt a great thing for Ocean City. It’s bringing new people into town, meaning there’s a chance they come back for a summer vacation!

Vacation rental companies, such as our friends at Central Reservations, will also see a boost in revenue for these weekends that they may not have seen otherwise. If the people who are in town for Boardwalk Rock, Oceans Calling, or Country Calling absolutely love Ocean City, there’s a chance they’ll come back for more in the summertime!

Does music festivals affect the Ocean City, MD real estate market?

While it would be hard to make a direct correlation between the music festivals and the real estate market in OCMD, we think that the festivals are without a doubt making a positive impact for a number of reasons. As we mentioned before, bringing new people into town is ALWAYS a good thing. There’s a chance that as a result of visiting OC they’ll come back for a vacation. If they come back for a vacation, maybe they’ll do 2 trips to Ocean City, MD the following year. You probably see where we’re going with this. With the sheer amount of people who come into town for these music festivals there’s bound to be at least a few that will end up purchasing property here in the future.

Additionally, if there are people who are considering investing in an Ocean City, MD vacation rental, they may be more inclined to do so because of these festivals! If someone is considering a vacation rental purchase, these festivals may push them over their break-even point.

Tying It All Together

At the end of the day, what does all of this mean? A potential for more buyers in the Ocean City, MD real estate market. What does more buyers in the market mean? Increased demand, and in turn, increased property value.

As we mentioned before, it’s difficult to draw a direct correlation between these extremely popular music festivals and OC property values, but we can make some inferences. At the end of the day, they bring more people to Ocean City, which is always a step in the right direction for every aspect of OC!
